EBS Automation was commissioned by an international bearing manufacturer to design and manufacture an assembly machine for a new bearing. The new bearing comprised of: a hub with 2-Bearing Races of 22 rollers each, Intermediate Ring & Cir-clip.
The machine consisted of a semi-automatic assembly process with the larger components loaded manually into the tooling by the operator, the roller bearings were fed automatically from a vibratory bowl feeder.
The machine was manufactured using a box section base with all tooling mounted on the base plate. An operator console was fitted with a Siemens HMI to display part numbers produced, operator and machine information and indicator lamps for fault conditions.
A two hand start pushbutton was provided to initiate the automated sections of the cycle
All moving tooling and elements that are susceptible to wear were manufactured from hardened and ground steel.
The important factors of this process were the parts had to remain clean with no cross contamination from the machine. Therefore all the tooling and moving parts were contained within a sealed area of the machine only accessible for maintenance.
Bearing Assembly Machine
During the assembly process quality checks were carried out to ensure that the correct parts were being assembled and in the correct quantities. e.g counting the number of rollers assembled to each unit.
Bearing Assembly Machine
This machine was designed to be compact to allow for flexible manufacturing cell layout.
